A simple fragrance, honest, fresh and sweet.
An astonishing harmony of notes evocative of childhood memories and happy moments.
The Perfume:
A touch of gaiety, a hint of nonchalance, a touch of daring... the language of perfume envelops the skin in a seductive veil so sinfully sweet, it's almost edible.

Perfumistas hope for a journey in their scent, from a romantic view, perhaps a journey of the olfactory imagination? Many scents help us link brain to nose, it's not unusual..
However, what is unusual in contemporary perfumery is a true journey from top note to base notes, a scent that travels from a distinct starting point to a transformative dry down, a distinctive beginning and end.
Caron's magnificent Eau De Reglisse is a masterpiece of travel. Beginning with a sharp citrus lemon verbena and ginger punch, it wakes us up, invigorates, refreshes.. Though not your in your standard lemon cologne kind of way, this is no Aqua di Parma, it's a full bodied waft of almost gourmand citrus. As the top notes begin to move away, the journey reveals a sweeter, spicy, almost oriental nuance, as if the scent is literally warming up, losing it's brightness and moving into autumnal territory. At this stage we smell the almighty licorice aspect of it's namesake. This is where the true beauty is revealed, a deep rich and dry licorice, reminiscent of the raw gnarled twigs of tree, not the sticky black sweets of Lolita Lempicka.
As the journey ends we are left with the classic Caron dry down, a vanilla balsam that wraps us up in warmth and soft spice like a sweetly scented hug.
It astounds me that a scent so initially vibrant and effervescent can transform into such soft rich gloop, alike champagne morphing into a syrupy vintage port. Caron doesn't sell perfume, they sell alchemy..

Serge Lutens Fille En Aiguilles Eau de Parfum 50ml
Pine needles.
Resin, sunshine, cicadas and the shade of tall pine trees.
The needles prick your feet, but a stand of pines by the beach is a wonderful thing!

A marvelous elixir paying homage to the great pine tree..
The pursuit of a truly authentic wood scent is a lengthy chase, with most mainstream fragrances houses popping in a heavy dose of floral or citric notes to make it 'palatable' to the modern nose. In Fille en Aiguilles, Serge Lutens has created a fragrance that offers no compromise. It is a majestic great waft of thick, syrupy, resinous, sweet, dark wood that oozes the true sensation of a stroll through a hot pine forest in the searing heat of the Mediterranean.
It journeys me back to the Extremadura Mountains in Palma Mallorca where i lingered, eyes closed, amongst the Pine trees inhaling the scent of their woody secretions. Is it possible the create the smell of 'heat'? It's as close as possible in Fille en Aiguilles, where the Bay Leaf and spices add a subtle spicy heat to the woods, ensuring a comforting wrap of uplifting emotion.
With every spritz of this wonderful juice I'll be transported far far away..
